Information:
October 18, 1894: Charles was arrested on a
charge of illegitimate parentage preferred by Rosa Damon.To avoid spending the
night in jail he jumped from a second story window. Two Fort Wayne newspapers:
The Fort Wayne Gazette and the
Fort Wayne News reported on the event.
October 23, 1894: This morning Vanderford
returned voluntarily after an absence of a week and to-day at high noon was
married to Miss Daimon. This ends the criminal proceedings and will result
satisfactorily to the bondsman. [Fort Wayne

August 31, 1895: Rose M. Vanderford has
applied for a divorce from her husband. The complaint alleges that the couple
were married in October, 1894 and separated in April 1895. Cruelty, desertion
and failure to provide for the wife and child are charged. The writing of
anonymous letters by the defendant in order to precipitate divorce proceedings
