June 1, 1945: Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Knecht announced the engagement of their daughter Peggy to Perry a seaman first class in the USNR. The Oxnard Courier reported that Lemuel was one of 148 men in the county to report to Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas. [Oxnard Press]

1930:
Lemuel was operating a service station and they were living at 448 Hurst St., Ventura, Ventura County, Calif. [census-CA]
