John came to adulthood in the Colony of Virginia. [Dibert]

1708-1710:
John and Mary with his inlaws, Martin Chartier (iml15) and his wife, traveled with the Shawnees on the Wariors' Trail north into Pennsylvania and eventually to the Juniata River near what is now Bedford, Pennsylvania. [Dibert]

1710:

John and Mary stopped traveling and set up a trading and trapping post where Dunnings Creek meets the Juniata River. The Indians called it Fort Wingwan. Being married into the Shawnee, he got along with the local Indians and built and cultivated a large area on the frontier. [Dibert]

1732:
Near the beginning of the French and Indian War, trouble began brewing with the renegade Indians. These Indians urged on and accompanied by Donegal trappers, attacked and killed John, Mary and 7 of their 12 children. Two daughters and three sons survived and traveled the 250 miles back to Jamestown, Virginia to live with their father's brother. [Dibert]
