1910:
John was a farmer and the family was living in Cole Township, Scott County, Arkansas.

September 12, 1918:
According to John's World War I Draft Registration Card he was farming in Bates, Cole Township, Scott County, Arkansas. He was married and of medium height and build with blue eyes and light hair.

1920:
John was farming in Coal Township, Scott County, Arkansas. [census-Ark] The family had moved to Oklahoma sometime between 1910 and 1918 but returned to Arkansas. John had remarried and his stepson, Marlow was living with them.

January 3, 1927:
While John was managing the stave cutting in Mr. Harper's bottom farm, his son James had a tree he was sawing split up. When John chopped off the split portion, the tree gave way killing him.
