Information:

Nicholas served in the Revolutionary War. He signed up with the 12th Pennsylvania Regiment. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Quebec on January 31, 1776. [Upton]

After his release, he and mary went south, and he was fighting on the Continental Line in North Carolina from 1781-1783. [Upton]

1795:
Nicholas bought 738 acres on Turkey Creek. [Uk]

March 28, 1798:
"I John Sevier Governor and commander in cheif in and over the State of Tennessee do permit Brigadier General James Shite, Amos Bird, Stephen Bird, Joseph Taylor, James Campble, and Nichl. Nail, has by passport for the purpose of Viewing and exploring the most convenient and best way for the main road to pass the river Clinch That leads from this place to the Cumberland Mountian and from thence into the district of Mero - I therefore request & command that the aforesaid Genl. White, Amos Bird, Stephen Bird, Joseph Taylor, James Campble & Nicholas Nail be permitted to pass & repass unmolested.
Given under my hand in Knoxvile the 28th March 1798. John Sevier" [Potter]

1802, 1808 and 1809:
Nicholas was on the Tax Rolls in Roane County, Tennessee. [Upton]

October 20, 1813 recorded April 28, 1828:
Nicholas wrote his will but it was hidden by his son Matthew who was unhappy with it. [Ellis]

1814:
The Tax rolls show Nicholas's widow and sons John, Joseph, Aquilla and Matthew paying the taxes. [Uk]

From Daniela Moneta to Flo Dickey 11/6/96: "In the fall of 1836, Mary Ann wrote her sons in Arkansas that she was having trouble with the slaves not working and her son Matthew was constantly getting drunk and none of the other children would help her; so she wanted them to come home and to help sell the slaves. It was decided that Joseph and Andrew would ride back to TN. Another son, Thomas, was supposed to be in Arkansas according to Court records. On the way, Andrew was ambushed and killed between Arkansas and TN. After the estate settlement, Joseph started home with the money. From court records we find he was chased by his brothers but managed to get away. He picked up his family in Arkansas and they moved to TX." [Salter]
