Harriet and her children were sued in Pendleton County Court by Willis Lovelace to recover $75 on a note by William Roberts on April 12, 1859 to buy a horse. [Lanier]

October 20, 1859:
A judgment of the court stated that "the bay mare was to be sold, after advertising, and to pay the plaintiffs costs and debts from the proceeds, and that if any money was left over, that it would be paid to the defendants." [Lanier]

1860:
